Welcome to handbuilding! A class for beginner and intermediate potters who want to learn and refine their handbuilding skills. Held from September 11th to October 16th, 9:30am-12:30pm.
Course cost: $435 includes clay, glazes, firings, and pottery supplies.
Get ready to flex those creative skills as you dive into the world of hand building. You'll learn techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab rolling, and shaping—all the skill for making pottery without the wheel. Whether you're drawn to the slower pace or the tactile nature of clay, this class offers space to explore and create.
You'll spend the first five weeks in our studio learning or expanding on your foundational handbuilding techniques and how to bring them together into functional and sculptural pieces. In the final week, we’ll guide you through glazing—what it is, how it works, and how to approach it with confidence.
No experience? No problem. We’ll guide you through each step and support you in creating pieces you’ll be proud to use and keep.
What to Expect:
-
Demos covering core hand building techniques: pinching, coiling, slab building, and how to combine them
-
Building different shapes forms, whether they be functional items or a scuptural project
-
Refining and finishing: smoothing, attaching handles or details, and shaping with intention
-
Glazing Day — your bisque-fired pieces will be ready for you to glaze using our studio selection
All finished work will be ready for pickup in 4-5 weeks.
